PHP Developer - remote working available
Salary: £32,000 - £37,000
My client based in Sheffield, delivers management software throughout the UK and beyond. The software is specifically designed for small and medium sized businesses.
A people focused business, the company offers a supportive, friendly, and welcoming working environment with an emphasis on learning and developing excellence.
As PHP Developer you can work remotely (from home). You will need to visit the office in Sheffield, possibly weekly, or two or three times a month.
We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced developer to join the team. The software application is built using a variety of technologies: PHP, Laravel, internal and external APIs as well as a legacy code base.
To support our next stage of growth, we are migrating our legacy systems onto an exciting cutting-edge architecture that includes:
- Automated deployments to our self-healing and autoscaling cloud-based servers
- Loosely coupled, API-first, microservices software architecture
- Responsive user interface that offers a consistent experience across any device
- Full coverage automated testing
The core activities of the team are refactoring our legacy code base, building new tools and modules, and fixing bugs. We also rely on our people to identify improvement opportunities and work with business to enhance the product.
Being an excellent coder, fluent in the most aspects of our technology stack, the code you write will be well-structured, documented, secure, and testable. A background in PHP is favourable but not essential if you can show excellence in other languages and have desire to embrace the PHP ecosystem.
You possess an excellent understanding of all aspects of secure software development methodologies, including the basics of penetration testing, and are fully familiar with the OWASP Top Ten vulnerabilities. More than that, you understand how security goes far deeper than stopping SQL injection, topics such as user access control and usable security are just as important.
As well as cutting great code, you can bring together all aspects of a software development, fully understanding the interaction between all aspects of the technology stack.
You understand how to manage business, user and technical requirements in a project and can manage projects with a reduced level of oversight, from requirements gathering and functional specification through to deployment and testing.
You have a passion for learning and love sharing what you learn. Mentoring trainees or junior developers will be one of your responsibilities.
Keywords: Security, OWASP, PHP, Laravel, PHPUnit, MVC, RESTful APIs, Git
You will be passionate about the work that you do and technology in a wider sense.
You will be a confident person, with the ability to work on your own initiative without high levels of supervision.
Identifying with the business and its aims, you will want to take an active role in developing the culture of the company, while also holding us to account when we fall short of our aims.
You will need to thrive in a small team, without some of the support structures of a larger business.
Collaborative in nature, you will be able to articulate information to technical and non-technical staff.
You will demonstrate problem-solving skills, good communication skills, and the ability to work flexibly and well under pressure.
The company will offer a competitive salary of £32,000 to £37,000 plus company benefits.
Interested candidates should forward your CV. Applicant details will be in strict confidence.
